Customer Relationship Management The primary purpose of this is customer retention; the longer customers stay with you, the more they spend, the more they convert their friends, the less likely they go to your competition.
Customer relationship management -- but that does NOT mean the purchase of expensive software. It DOES mean looking at the problems you are solving for your customers, understanding who they are, and how they like to solve their problems with you (product, channel) and, oh, by the way, who the most lucrative customers are. It DOES mean making sure the sales team knows what service problems their customers are having -- again -- it's all about solving the customer's problems.

It's honest.
Customer Relationship Management, otherwise known as CRM, is quite a buzz word... but what does it actually Mean?! Actually, it means a lot of things to a lot of people... To the secretary, sending out the Christmas cards, it means having a list of client names and addresses that are correct. To the sales person, it means having an overview of all customer contracts and contacts. It also means being able to analyze client behavior and identify the most profitable relationships. To the financial department, it means having facts and figures across years and operational systems that are consistent and accurate. To the board member, it means high level overviews of business trends and costs.

It is a way of consoladating and using data derived from different departments within a company. For instance, shipping might note a slight increase of product shipped to a specific region. That data could be used to increase advertising in that area to maximize return. Customer Relationship Marketing: Should be a subsidiary of key account marketing, but is instead a bastard stepchild of IT (where it shouldn't be), sales, and marketing. Customer Relationship Management. Not a software. Customer Centric, Customer Oriented, Customer Obsessed.
Customer Relationship Management: Establishing a lifetime value for your customer (LVC) provides a realistic benchmark against which to create retention programs ... and determine realistic ROI's for each ... that address customer needs (the first rule of sales: find out what your customer wants and give it to them). As opposed to a strict operational focus that treats the customer as an after thought. CRM is understanding who your customers are, what they mean to your business, and committing to an ongoing "conversation" with them (creating an interactive environment in which they can participate and you listen to what they have to say) in a way that they find is meaningful. CRM answers your customer's question, "what's in it for me?"
Customer Relationship Management Developing a more customized and personalized relationship through how you treat and communicate with customers. Identifying the rational level of investment based on current and future value of each customer or segment. Developing appropriate offers and products/services based on knowing more about what your customers need, want and have bought from you and others.
