Would you be upset if Starbucks closed a store in your neighborhood?
#Response DateWhy or why not?
.8/14/2008 6:44:00 AMIt's the only freaking one here!
.8/14/2008 6:45:00 AMits still a good place to get the NYTimes in Boston.
.8/14/2008 7:38:00 AMThey run a good operation.
.8/14/2008 7:57:00 AMIt's their business model...they need to work out what makes sense. I have no judgement one way or the other on that...plus, for me, coffee is not this thing that I HAVE to have close by. It would not affect how I feel about the brand at all if they opened/closed stores in my area.
.8/14/2008 10:05:00 AMStarbucks should definitely close stores.
.8/14/2008 10:49:00 AMThis is one neighborhood (downtown Cleveland) where its locations don't seem excessive.
.8/14/2008 10:50:00 AMMy happiness is not driven by the convenience or lack thereof of any vendor including Starbucks.
.8/14/2008 10:58:00 AMNo other decent cafe in town.
.8/14/2008 11:10:00 AMDon't go there often, several other coffee shops to go to, WiFi at this Starbucks does not work, does at Bo's
.8/14/2008 11:41:00 AMFor the convenience of going there and the fact that my children like the specialty drinks.
.8/14/2008 11:44:00 AMToo many. Too homogenous. Not enough individualism in Starbucks brand. Like a big tough guy.
.8/14/2008 11:47:00 AMThere are plenty of others within close distance
.8/14/2008 12:01:00 PMWe have outstanding "locals" with more atmosphere and uniqueness. But the Starbucks stores also are attractive and offer variety, nice seating, convenience for business meetings, etc.
.8/14/2008 12:09:00 PMI don't do there that often, and it is not that close to my home
.8/14/2008 12:10:00 PMIt might give a local coffeehouse an opportunity.
.8/14/2008 12:20:00 PMIt would actually help the brand if they were a little less convenient, a little more special.
.8/14/2008 12:21:00 PMIt's convenient and consistent. It also adds to the neighborhood - which used to be "on the cusp" with crime, homelessness. Now, the Starbucks says that my neighborhood has arrived.
.8/14/2008 12:21:00 PMThere are plenty of alternatives
.8/14/2008 12:35:00 PMOne Store is perfectly located considering my commute
.8/14/2008 12:36:00 PMDon't go now anyway!
.8/14/2008 12:40:00 PMNo Starbucks in my neighborhood...
.8/14/2008 12:41:00 PMThey took over an historic building and really improved it. I'd hate to see it go back to the way it was
.8/14/2008 12:44:00 PMIt is a good option to take a break and get something to eat in our little downtown area
.8/14/2008 12:44:00 PMRight now I don't use it very much, but I could well again in the future!
.8/14/2008 12:46:00 PMThere is one strategically placed in all the major areas of my town. I can walk to one from home another from work and there is another that is located right where I do all of my errands.
.8/14/2008 12:51:00 PMAs long as the one near work stayed open...
.8/14/2008 12:52:00 PMDepends which one they closed and if the service got better at the one they kept.
.8/14/2008 12:52:00 PMSlightly less convenient at some times.
.8/14/2008 1:02:00 PMI probably would not go to Starbucks if it wasn't convenient
.8/14/2008 1:13:00 PMDepends on which one...there is a free-standing Starbucks that has a very convenient drive-thru, and I would be upset if that closed. But there is also a Starbucks inside a grocery store that I would not necessarily miss if it closed.
.8/14/2008 1:13:00 PMThere are some excellent local independents in both my home and work neighborhoods.
.8/14/2008 1:14:00 PMdepends which one
.8/14/2008 1:16:00 PMI would have to drive several miles out of my way to another one. My husband goes daily, sometimes twice daily & would be very upset.
.8/14/2008 1:22:00 PMWE have 11 Dunkin Donuts in our town.
.8/14/2008 1:34:00 PMI have other good choices.
.8/14/2008 1:36:00 PMThey are closing one that I drive by on my way to work, if I stop at all it is at that one. So I am sad it is closing.
.8/14/2008 1:39:00 PMThey are!
.8/14/2008 1:40:00 PMSee above - No need for any more Starbucks in NYC - there are enough!
.8/14/2008 1:43:00 PMIf it were the one closest to me I might be a little upset.
.8/14/2008 1:44:00 PMI am loyal to another coffee place
.8/14/2008 1:56:00 PMIts far enough away to be a treat when you want one. No access would be bad
.8/14/2008 1:57:00 PMBecause I have 3 more to go to!
.8/14/2008 1:58:00 PMIt's convenient to have one nearby when I want it.
.8/14/2008 2:00:00 PMEven though I don't go often, I like knowing it's there and being able to stop by when I'm driving to a client (for a morning fix) or to walk up on a Saturday morning.
.8/14/2008 2:01:00 PMThere would need to be one for me to be upset. You need another button.
.8/14/2008 2:01:00 PMThey have already started closing stores around me. (San Juan, Puerto Rico)
.8/14/2008 2:02:00 PMit's part of my routine
.8/14/2008 2:06:00 PMDon't go to it - generally visit it only while on the road/at the airport only
.8/14/2008 2:10:00 PMDepends on which one - and proximity.
.8/14/2008 2:17:00 PMI am not their customer.
.8/14/2008 2:27:00 PMI like the coffee and the atmosphere to catch up on reading or meet with friends and business colleagues. Convenience is a big part of that. Closures cause inconvenience.
.8/14/2008 2:30:00 PMIt's a familiar sight but I probably would not miss it given that there is a local coffee shop and a Dunkin very close by. Dunkin has better coffee.
.8/14/2008 2:32:00 PMI have 2 independent coffee shops closer -- one is faster and good for basic coffee, the other is slow but super atmosphere and great drinks. Almost never go to Starbucks in my neighborhood anymore.
.8/14/2008 2:41:00 PMfree-standing units are a good location identifier!
.8/14/2008 2:42:00 PMI'm very indifferent. Coffee might taste good but it is ridiculously priced, service is incredibly slow (ever had coffee in Italy?), and the stores are too harsh -- dark lighting only makes the stores look dirty and dingy, not comfy and cozy. Funky independent coffee shops are much much much more interesting and they get it right.
.8/14/2008 2:43:00 PMThere are plenty of independent coffee shops, other chains, or diners in the same area.
.8/14/2008 2:44:00 PMBECAUSE IT'S RIGHT ON MY WAY TO WORK AND I WOULD BE BUMMED IF I HAD TO DRIVE OUT OF MY WAY FOR IT!
.8/14/2008 2:46:00 PMIt's just business, nothing personal- though I think in some'hoods having a Starbucks open is/was a sign that the area is becoming important and closing the store has hit some of these areas in a personal way.
.8/14/2008 2:46:00 PMAs long as they didnt close ALL of them, I'd be fine.
.8/14/2008 2:49:00 PMyou always can find an option
.8/14/2008 2:52:00 PMIt's a gathering place central to our first ring 'burb outside of Mpls. While I also like Dunn Brothers, the space is too small to meet.
.8/14/2008 2:59:00 PMBecause when I'm on that side of town I always go there either for a capp or an iced tea.
.8/14/2008 3:14:00 PMdunkin donuts coffee is better
.8/14/2008 3:28:00 PMWe have Peet's Coffee which is much better and we have several private coffee places that roast their own and are infinitely better.
.8/14/2008 3:33:00 PMit had always been a destination stop for us. Just a little more convenient now.
.8/14/2008 3:35:00 PMStarbucks is a pillar of our neighborhood. Losing one would change the area in a way that probably would not work as well as having a Starbucks.
.8/14/2008 3:40:00 PMThey take up space that another retailer could occupy, with a needed service.
.8/14/2008 3:44:00 PMsometimes i need a coffee and they are convenient
.8/14/2008 3:46:00 PMI do like certain specialty drinks--and prefer to get them in the stand-alone store, rather than the grocery store stands.
.8/14/2008 3:55:00 PMI like Starbucks but I seldom go out of my way to go there. Other coffee shops in the area lack the aesthetic but have finer coffee.
.8/14/2008 3:56:00 PMBecause the remaining stores would get busier.
.8/14/2008 4:12:00 PMI seldom make the walk over any longer. Out of convenience I might pop in but it is no longer a destination as it once was.
.8/14/2008 4:12:00 PMThere are too many. The shops in the grocery stores are overkill. I liked Starbucks for it's unique and appealing stores. Now it's like McDonalds in Walmart - it's not special anymore.
.8/14/2008 4:14:00 PMDepends on which they close. If they close the one closest - yes, I'd be upset. Also at work, there are two in walking distance. If they close the one I go to 90% of the time, I'd be very upset.
.8/14/2008 4:19:00 PMThere are plenty of better alternatives.
.8/14/2008 4:37:00 PMThere are more than enough stores within 2 miles of my house.
.8/14/2008 4:40:00 PMThey are actually closing one near me. It's not the most convenient to get to so I'm okay with it.
.8/14/2008 4:51:00 PMn/a
.8/14/2008 4:52:00 PMWhere McDonald's was once the sign of civilization, Starbucks now is
.8/14/2008 4:57:00 PMMy fave is the one in Barnes & Noble. It's great to be able to take a book or magazine to browse while I'm sipping.
.8/14/2008 5:04:00 PMI would feel bad for the people who congregate there. It's hard to lose a place like that.
.8/14/2008 5:42:00 PMThere are several others, two are right next to each other
.8/14/2008 5:56:00 PMBecause there are plenty of other ones I could go to with little additional effort.
.8/14/2008 6:06:00 PMIt's convenient to have them always within a few blocks. Though I always prefer a local place if there is one.
.8/14/2008 6:07:00 PMBecause this is road food for me, not home food
.8/14/2008 6:49:00 PMConvenience
.8/14/2008 6:51:00 PMBecause there are four others in my neighborhood
.8/14/2008 7:13:00 PMI love fraps and it would be nice to get them close to home.
.8/14/2008 8:00:00 PMMaybe a new local coffee store would spring up in it's stead
.8/14/2008 8:15:00 PMtoo long a wait in the AM for coffee when I do get it ...
.8/14/2008 9:10:00 PMAs I said before, I like their beans.
.8/14/2008 9:27:00 PMi brew quality coffee at home now
.8/14/2008 10:09:00 PMThere are many other coffee shop options in my neighborhood such as bakeries and other coffee shops.
.8/14/2008 10:10:00 PMI don't patronize the one that is so far from my home so wouldn't matter if it closed.
.8/14/2008 10:11:00 PMThey're not convenient for me so I rarely go there. I go to those that are near where I workout and near work.
.8/14/2008 11:50:00 PMI wouldnt miss one...if they closed 3 or 4 of them I would be upset
.8/15/2008 12:31:00 AMThere is a drive thru one nearby...very convenient!
.8/15/2008 2:08:00 AMit is not my first choice for coffee so i have options
.8/15/2008 2:57:00 AMNice to walk into town with wife/kids to go for a coffee
.8/15/2008 7:10:00 AMthey already closed one, yet the local shops are still doing great
.8/15/2008 4:54:00 PMAs long as it's only one store, I won't mind, because there are two others.
.8/15/2008 5:37:00 PMThey are ubiquitous. There's another one around the corner.
.8/16/2008 12:04:00 AMI don't want employees to lose their jobs.
.8/16/2008 1:39:00 AMThere aren't any other coffee shops in our area.
.8/17/2008 4:46:00 PMTons of them elsewhere in my county.
.8/18/2008 1:51:00 PMIt would depend on if it was the one that I always go to or one of the others that are just secondary options
.8/18/2008 3:25:00 PMYES
.8/18/2008 4:13:00 PMIt depends which one they close. I would be upset if they closed the one I like the most. If they closed one of the other two, I'd be fine with it.
.8/18/2008 8:16:00 PMfeel for the employees
